Two held with banned currency notes, intoxicants

Two persons were arrested and large quantity of intoxicants and demonetised currency notes recovered from their possession in two separate incidents here, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip off, police intercepted a truck near Kunjwani Chowk yesterday and found 10 kilograms of cannabis and Rs 10 lakh in banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from the vehicle, a police officer said.

He said the driver was arrested and during questioning he admitted that he took the consignment from south Kashmir’s Anantnag district for delivering it to Jammu.

Police said more arrests are likely to be made in the case in coming days.

In another incident, a man was arrested and 20 bottles of banned syrup, 540 intoxicant capsules and 165 tablets were recovered from his possession in the Salehar area in Arnia, he said adding that he has been arrested and booked under various sections of law. — PTI
