The incident took place around 8pm when Satpal (70) and his son Ramesh (40) came outside the canteen and were reportedly headed towards their home in Mandi Ahmedgarh. Two bike-borne assailants arrived there and sprayed bullets on them.

Both died on the spot.

DIG (Ludhiana range) SK Kalia said a .32-bore pistol was used in the crime. He said investigation is on. Six empty shells have been recovered from the crime scene, said a source.

Panic gripped the area after several dera supporters gathered at the spot. The father-son duo was running a cloth shop and reported to be associated with dera for a long time. They had taken the contract of the canteen a fortnight ago.

Police are checking the CCTV installed near the crime scene. Police personnel in large numbers have been deployed in the area following the incident.

A murder case has been registered in this regard, police said, adding security has been beefed up around the areas. — With PTI inputs
