Tricity dengue count climbs up to 2,709

Fresh cases of dengue and chikungunya have continued to pour in from the tricity and surrounding areas despite dipping temperatures.

Mohali district today reported 13 fresh cases of dengue and 23 of chikungunya. The total number of dengue in the district has now reached 1,804 and that of chikungunya has climbed to 97.

Today 12 cases of dengue were reported from various health institutions of Chandigarh which brings the total number of dengue cases to 722. Also, five fresh cases of chikungunya were reported, taking the total number to 150. Panchkula, meanwhile, reported five fresh cases of dengue and two of chikungunya. The total number of dengue cases in Panchkula is now 183 and that of chikungunya is 72.

Health officials said preventive activities, including daily fumigation is being carried out along with field activities like awareness, checking of breeding sources, are being conducted. "These activities will be carried out till fresh cases of dengue are being reported," said Dr Rakesh Kashyap, Director, Health Services, UT.
