Chamba town and its surrounding areas were shaken by an earthquake at 1:48 pm on Monday. The tremors were felt for a few seconds in the region. There was, however, no loss of life or property from anywhere so far, the reports said. The magnitude of the earthquake could not be ascertained as there is no seismological centre in the district. — OC

Man hangs self

A 28-year-old resident of Rard Samloti village in Nagrota Bagwan police station died due to hanging on Monday. The police have registered a case and started investigating the matter. Inder Kumar, SHO, Nagrota Bagwan, said Manoj Kumar of Rard Samloti village was brought to DRPGMC, Tanda, where doctors declared him brought dead. The SHO said the police have registered a case and started investigation under Section 174 Cr PC. He said the body had been sent for a postmortem examination and the cause of the death was not known. — OC

Legal literacy camp

Sandeep Singh Sihag, Civil Judge-cum-Chairman of Manali sub-divisional legal services committee, presided over a legal literacy camp at Riyada village in Manali subdivision on Sunday. He said to resolve the land related disputes demarcation of land should be carried out. He also highlighted the importance of registered Will and Girdawari.  He also apprised the masses about various legal provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act, birth and death registration, rights of consumers and illegal drug trade. — OC

Sedatives recovered

The Nurpur police have recovered 552 sedative proxivon capsules. While checking at Rehan police check post on Sunday evening, the police stopped Sandeep Dhiman, who was coming on a motorcycle, and recovered 552 sedative proxivon capsules from his possession. He was arrested under the Drug and Cosmetic Act. As per police information, the accused had already been booked by Nalagarh police in Solan district under the NDPS Act and Drug and Cosmetic Act. The police have handed over the accused to Nalagarh police. — OC
