Training on optimisation of combine harvester

A practical training on ‘Adjustment and Optimisation of Combine Harvester: Comprehensive Straw Management Begins with Harvest’ was conducted at the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).

In all, 35 scientists, engineers, extension workers, students from the department and Krishi Vigyan Kendras were imparted training in the straw management.

Trainer Christian Bachnicke from DEULA-Nienburg, Germany, imparted training in the straw management. He told the trainees that straw chopper was a standard fitment with all combine harvesters operational in Germany. For the past six years, Bachnicke has been working as a trainer for the optimisation of combine harvesters at DEULA-Nienburg.

Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Research, PAU, said: “LA-Nienburg is an agricultural training institute certified by the State of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) in Germany. It has the responsibility of practical education and extension service to farmers in the framework of official education in the area of agriculture.” He said the training was organised as a part of collaborative work between the German Agri Business Alliance and the PAU.

Giving the course details, Dr Manjeet Singh, Head, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, said the experts shed light on optimising the combine harvester for wheat harvest; approach for correct basic settings of the cutting unit and threshing unit; shaker device; cleaning and straw chopper of combine harvester. Suggestions for enhancing the machine capacity and efficiency, along with eliminating the grain loss, were also covered during the course.
