The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) today said the trading community was facing problems as the government had not restarted the process of making Aadhaar cards.

“We have, time and again, brought to the notice of the state administration the difficulties that the trading community is facing in and out of the state for want of Aadhaar cards. The process for Aadhaar registration started in 2015 through which a number of people got registered but the process has not been completed. A larger number of people were registered for the purpose but only a small percentage of them have received their Aadhaar cards,” KCC&I secretary general Faiz Bakshi said.

He said the contract with the agencies appointed for Aadhaar registration had come to end while some of the agencies had backed out before they could complete the job.

“It was, however, assured that fresh arrangements were afoot to have the job completed at the earliest. But no such arrangements have been made so far,” Bakshi added.

The KCC&I urged the government to put in place a system so as to ensure that the entire population gets Aadhaar cards as early as possible.
