Jind, December 9

The preliminary inquiry to fix the responsibility for the failure to fire at a Guard of Honour during the cremation of Army martyr Kuldeep in Kheri Bullah village on December 7 has held a SI a HC responsible for faux pass and they have been suspended by Badan Singh, SP, Jind.

During investigations, it came to light that all four constables who failed to fire at time during cremation were handed .410 gun cartridges in place of .303 cartridges. Though the cops informed that cartridges of both gun bores appear similar and have little differences in their shape, but the IO has written it was the responsibility of SI Dharmvir Singh, in-charge of the armoury, to cross check the guns and issue the right cartridges. HC Raj Kumar, who was in-charge of the guard, should also have cross checked all weapons before leading his team to the cremation ground.

“Issuance of wrong cartridges led to the failure of cops. It could have been averted had Dharmvir and Raj Kumar followed the mandatory steps,”the SP said.
