Tissa ex-SDM gets 3-year jail in graft case

CHAMBA: The court has convicted Raj Dev Singh Jasrotia, former Tissa SDM, hailed from Malahu in Palampur, for an offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment of one year and to pay Rs 5,000.

The court has convicted Raj Dev Singh Jasrotia, former Tissa SDM, hailed from Malahu in Palampur, for an offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment of one year and to pay Rs 5,000. Simultaneously, for the offence under Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the convict has also been sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment for two years and a fine of Rs 5,000.

In default of payment of fine, the convict will undergo simple imprisonment for three months under each offence. The court has also convicted co-accused KV Krishna Mohan Rao and CH Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and sentenced them to undergo simple imprisonment for six months and pay Rs 5,000 each.

In a press note issued here today, District Attorney, Chamba, SS Pathania said on February 11, 2010, the vigilance police received an information that Jasrotia, then SDM, Tissa, was going to Kangra in a vehicle and carrying huge money collected illegally from power companies. The police set up a naka and the vehicle coming from Banikhet was stopped at Hatli Morh. During search, Rs.11.90 lakh was recovered which were being taken by him on his posting from SDM Tissa to RTO (Regional Transport Officer), Hamirpur.

The accused was arrested and after detailed investigation, it was alleged that Raj Dev, being a public servant, took money from the co-accused, employees of the hydro project companies.
