Mandi, October 1

A team of the district administration of Lahaul-Spiti rescued three trekkers who were stranded on the way to Kugti Pass in Lahaul-Spiti from Bharmour on Friday.

Sources told The Tribune that a group of trekkers from Delhi started from Bharmour to the pass in Lahaul-Spiti. Due to high-altitude sickness, Raghu Rao (53) of Kolkata fell ill which forced his two friends to make an emergency call to the district administration.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Keylong, Sunny Sharma confirmed the report and said, “We sent a rescue team, including the medical staff, on the spot and rescued the trekkers from the area last evening. The indisposed trekker was rushed to District Hospital at Keylong and provided medical aid. Later he was shifted to Manali.”

Kugti Pass, one of the most beautiful yet unexplored treks at 16,600 feet, is frequently used by Gaddi tribes to cross over to Lahaul and Spiti valleys to graze their cattle.

A strenuous climb with difficult terrains and slippery paths makes this trek one of the most challenging treks in the central Himalayan ranges.
