Three arrested in Jwalapur double murder case

The police today claimed to have solved the Jwalapur double murder case with the arrest of three persons.

The incident had sparked protests by residents, who had been demanding immediate arrest of the accused identified as Ashish Mehta, Sachin and Arun, all residents of Jwalapur.

Pankaj and Kartik, residents of Shastri Nagar, Jwalapur, were allegedly stabbed to death by the trio on October 2. The third victim, Rohit, alias Bunty, sustained serious injuries.

On a tip-off, the police arrested Ashish, Sachin and Arun from Ranipur Jhal late last night. During interrogation, the accused have confessed to their involvement in the case and said they were planning to surrender in a court tomorrow.

SSP Sweety Aggarwal said there was immense public pressure and they had formed five teams to nab the culprits at the earliest.

The SSP said today they received information that the accused were roaming around in the Ranipur Jhal area, near Jwalapur. She said they immediately sent a team to the area and arrested the trio.

The SSP said the weapon used in the crime had been seized from their possession. The accused hid the weapon in the bushes near the Jwalapur railway line after committing the crime.

The SSP said the accused and the victims were known to each other. She said accused Ashish and deceased Pankaj were at loggerheads over a woman friend.

A case under Sections 147,148, 302, 307, 504, 506 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the trio. They have been sent to jail.

Residents heave sigh of relief

Local residents have heaved a sigh of relief with the arrest of the accused. After the brutal murder of two youths, resentment was brewing among residents over the delay in the arrest of the accused despite the fact that they were identified the same day. Local residents had even gheraoed IG Sanjay Gunjiyal.
