Alike Somnath, there are several pensioners who have been making rounds of government offices to get their monthly pension of Rs250.

The beneficiaries have been receiving the grant under various schemes being run by the government for the elderly, differently abled and widows.

Anumber of pensioners today gathered at the Deputy Commissioner's office here and submitted a memorandum regarding the delay in their monthly pension.

Mohan Lal (62) of Sadikpur village in Shahkot said he had not received his old-age pension for the past nine months. “It seems the Punjab government is least concerned about the aged pensioners and the Punjab Chief Minister only cares for his own salary and that of his ministers, which were hiked recently," he said.

Sukhjinder Singh (27) of Malian village in Kartarpur said he had not received his disability pension for the past 10 months. "Neither the village sarpanch nor the social security officials are listening to my woes. Though I am not totally dependent on this paltry sum, it is my right and I have been making rounds of government offices to get this," he said.
