The 8th Battalion of Himachal Home Guards today celebrated its52nd Raising Day with fervour and gaiety at the Battalion Training Centre, Saroo, Chamba.

Battalion Commandant Kuldeep Sharma hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute at the march past presented by jawans of Home Guards. He also read out the messages of Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.

He said the state government had sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for setting up a computer laboratory at the Battalion training centre.

Earlier, a two-minute silence was observed to pay tributes to martyr Havildar Subhash Chand (40) of the 24 Punjab Regiment. He lost his life while taking on militants in the Uri sector of Baramula district in J&K yesterday. He was a resident of Barana Da Basa village, Bhattiyat subdivision, Chamba.
