Srinagar, October 25

The Muslim Conference headed by senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Bhat has termed the termination of the employees by the PDP-BJP led government as “inhuman and revengeful”.

The leader, in a statement, said the decision reflected how the government was adopting highly undemocratic ways to punish employees just for raising their voice against atrocities.

Amid the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on October 19 terminated the services of 12 employees for allegedly indulging in anti-national activities after dossiers were prepared against them. The employees, who were dismissed from the government service, belonged to various departments, including Revenue, Public Health Engineering, Rural Development and Education Department.

“Everybody has a moral right to raise their voice against the excesses and if the employees had stood against the human rights violations being committed by the state machinery, they had not violated any law,” he stated.

“On the one hand, employees are being terminated for raising the voice of conscience while on the other, it is ironical that those who killed over 100 people, blinded over 250 innocents and injured more than 15,000 are roaming freely,” he added. —TNS
