Tension gripped Rurra village near Sadhupul when the villagers clashed with Amardev and his two associates after a local women, who had gone inside Shri Ramlok Temple being constructed by him, was attacked with a sword. The incident took place this afternoon.

The locals took injured Shanti Devi to the Civil Hospital, Kandaghat, where she received 22 stitches, said eyewitness Praveen Kumar, pradhan, Tundal panchayat.

The locals were agitated to see the injured lady and this led to a scuffle between Amardev and his associates and the locals, who beat up Amardev.

Praveen said they were waiting for the SDM as the construction work undertaken by the temple management led to a heap of debris around the temple. The SDM was about to reach the spot to resolve the issue following a representation given by them.

Senior police officers had to rush to control the situation later in the day. Though they tried to broker peace between the two factions, the issue remained unresolved till the filing of this report.

Amardev was later admitted to the Regional Hospital, Solan, as he had also suffered injuries.

Though the police could not be contacted despite repeated calls, an official said criminal cases were likely to be filed by both sides against each other.
