A two-day symposium on modern information and communications technology for the Digital India (MICTDI) started on the CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO) campus, Sector 30, today. The event was organised by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) with the CSIR-CSIO.

Inaugurating the symposium, Punjab and Haryana Governor-cum-UT Administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki said that the theme for the convention was an important subject and it could help the country in formulating future goals.

He further said Swami Vivekanand predicted that the 21st century would be belong to India as the 20th century was of the USA. The Governor added that without the technological advancements, India of dream could not be built.

“Without imparting knowledge and skill, projects like Digital India, Make in India and Startup can’t be made successful,” he added.

Prof RK Sinha, Director, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh was the guest of honour. While addressing the gathering, he said the focus of the symposium was the modern information and communications technology for the Digital India project, which was an ambitious programme to ensure that all services were made available online infrastructure by strengthening the Internet connectivity.

Prof RK Shevgaonkar from the IIT, Bombay, delivered the 43rd Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Lecture.

Dr Navneet Singh Aulakh, a senior scientist with the CSIR-CSIO, said this was followed by technical sessions on various topics such as the Make in India initiative, skill development, optical fiber and sensor networks.
