Ludhiana, December 22
Tanzania XI prevailed over Uganda XI 5-3 to romp home as champions in the International Students’ Football Tournament that concluded at Punjab College of Technical Education PCTE, Baddowal, today.
The Indian team finished third by defeating Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The 10-day football tournament included student teams of Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea Bissau, Angola and those from India.
Haridi of Tanzania was declared the player of the tournament whereas Grace of DRC was adjudged the best goalkeeper.
Cedrick, student from DRC and organiser of the event, said they would organise more such tournaments in the future.
Dr KNS Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes, congratulated Tanzania and gave away medals along with cash prizes to the winners. He said the PCTE had 230 international students from 28 different countries.
“It is a great opportunity for Indian students to learn and compare themselves with foreign students in the sport,” said Dr Kang.
