Dehradun, September 21

There has been a surge in number of dengue cases in Uttarakhand with Dehradun and Haridwar districts reporting the highest number of cases in these months. Though the monsoon season is gradually receding there is no let up in the number of patients suffering from the disease. A patient in Haldwani (Kumaon) succumbed to the disease recently.

In Dehradun alone the number of dengue cases has reached about 118, out of which 57 patients are being treated at the Doon Medical College teaching hospital. Besides, around 45 patients from Haridwar, two from Tehri, two from Chamoli and one each from Rudraprayag and Chamoli are undergoing treatment here.

Today a male patient undergoing treatment for dengue at a private hospital died though the Department of Health is still ascertaining the cause behind his death. “A milder form of dengue is prevalent this year. The retreating monsoon may lead to sudden spurt but overall the situation is under control,” said Dr KC Pant, senior physician of Doon Medical College.

H1N1 cases

Significantly, there has been no let-up in the number of H1N1 virus cases as well as patients continue to be treated for the virus. A total of 162 patients have tested positive for H1N1 virus and a total of 19 patients have died in the state, this year.
