Ludhiana, October 2

Bharti Foundation, the development arm of Bharti Enterprises, has been selected for the coveted Rs25 lakh Sulabh Swachh Bharat Award for its contribution towards the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the completion of one year of the Abhiyan, sanitation pioneer Sulabh International today announced its decision to confer the first award to telecom giant’s social wing for its commitment to improve sanitation facilities by completing a record number of toilets in the past one year in Punjab’s Ludhiana district.

While announcing the award here today, founder of Sulabh Sanitation Movement Dr Bindeshwar Pathak termed the contribution of Bharti Foundation as remarkable in the first year of the clean India campaign launched by the PM on October 2 last year.

He said this award was established to honour organisations that take extraordinary steps for promotion of sanitation, especially under PM’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.

On this announcement, the Co-chairman of Bharti Foundation Rakesh Bharti Mittal said: “I am humbled by this decision to confer the Sulabh Swacch award for Bharti foundation team members who have assiduously worked in making this possible.” He said the last one year has indeed been extremely gratifying where Bharti Foundation along with Sulabh and other partners have handed over approximately 6,000 toilets to beneficiaries across 230 villages.
