Members of the family of Shefali, a resident of Sheikhan Mohalla who had died after consuming poison two days ago, and people of the area led by MLA Sunder Sham Arora today staged a protest against the alleged inaction of the City police. AAP leader Navin Jairath and Shiv Sena leaders also took part.

Protesters sat on dharna at Clock Tower Chowk outside the City police station blocking its entrance and the road.

The victim’s family members alleged that Shefali had consumed poison after being harassed by her in-laws, but under political pressure, the police were not arresting the accused.

They said that the police had not taken any action when Shefali’s in-laws had allegedly attempted to immolate her a few days ago.

DSP Sameer Verma told the protesters that a case had been registered against Shefali’s husband Ashish Sud, father-in-law Anil Sud, mother-in-law Anita Sud, sister Monika Sud and her husband Sharad Sud. He said that Sharad Sud had been arrested and the rest would be held soon.

Later, the family members were assured by the SSP over the phone that the accused would be arrested soon. After that, the people dispersed and the body was cremated after the post-mortem examination.
