A meeting called by Gurukul Kangri University Chancellor Ram Prakash here today to review the university’ constitution had to cancelled following a protest by teaching and non-teaching staff and students. Vice-Chancellor Surendra Kumar and Registrar Vinod Sharma boycotted the meeting.

Prof Shravan Kumar Sharma, convener of the University Agitation Committee, said they had already sent amendments to the university’s constitution to the University Grants Commission (UGC). The plan to hold another meeting was uncalled for, he alleged.

“The UGC had sought our views on amendments to the university’s constitution and other aspects, which have already been sent. However, another meeting was called today, which was unnecessary. It seems the Chancellor wants to make more changes to benefit a section of people, who are eyeing the land of the 100-year-old university,” alleged Sharma.

Another protester Pradeep Kumar Joshi said they would not allow the interests of the university to be harmed.

Faculty members Dr Veena Bishnoi, Sohan Pal Singh Arya, Deepak Anand, Dr Sachin Pathak, Dr Ajay Malik, DS Malik, Nainneesh, Suchitra Malik, Ravindra Kumar, Om Veer, Pramod Kumar and Randheer Singh took part in the protest.

Meanwhile, the Gurukul Kangri Students’ Welfare Union has also extended support to the agitation.
