Stray dogs kill 23 sheep

LALRU: As many as 23 sheep were killed after being allegedly attacked by a pack of stray dogs in an enclosure located on the outskirts of Toffanpur village here.

As many as 23 sheep were killed after being allegedly attacked by a pack of stray dogs in an enclosure located on the outskirts of Toffanpur village here.

Rajinder Singh, Block Samiti member, along with a team of officials, visited the spot. According to sources, Lakhvir Singh, a shepherd, had kept around 50 sheep in a temporary enclosure near his house at Toffanpur village.

Lakhvir said around 1 am today, he heard the sheep bleat and came out of his house. To his shock, he found some sheep lying in a pool of blood. He said some sheep were badly injured.

Veterinary doctors were informed, who, along with a team, visited the enclosure to examine the injured sheep.

Lakhvir claimed that he had suffered a loss of nearly Rs 1.5 lakh. The sources said villagers often complained that stray dogs in the area were a nuisance.
