Missing minor girl found murdered, one arrested

CHANDIGARH: The body of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was “kidnapped” from Sarangpur last evening, was found dumped in a gunny bag in the Industrial Area, Phase II.

The body of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was “kidnapped” from Sarangpur last evening, was found dumped in a gunny bag in the Industrial Area, Phase II. The left side of the victim’s face was mutilated. The police suspect that some animal may have eaten the face of the child after the body was dumped.

The police said the victim was murdered and her body dumped. They claimed that they had arrested one person in this connection. Information regarding the body lying outside plot number 93 was received at the control room at around 8.30 am today.

The area SHO, Inspector Jasbir Singh, rushed to the spot. The gunny bag was tied with a thread.

The photograph of the victim was circulated in nearby areas, including Ram Darbar, to establish her identity. The message regarding the recovery of the body was also flashed at all city police stations. A team of Central Forensic Science Laboratory arrived at the spot and started investigation. UT SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill also visited the spot.

The body was shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.

On verification, it was found that the victim had gone missing from Sarangpur and a case of kidnapping was registered at the police station there. Sources said the victim had gone missing around 5 pm yesterday while she was playing near the house.

The victim’s father, a gardener, arrived at the hospital and identified the body. The victim is survived by her parents and three siblings, including two brothers.

Postmortem report awaited

Satish Kumar, DSP (Central), said a charge of murder would be added to the case only after verifying all facts. “The postmortem has been conducted and the report is awaited, after which the cause of the death will be known,” the DSP said. 

Body was dumped before 11 pm 

Police sources said a security guard of a nearby industrial plot had seen the gunny bag being dumped around 11 pm. However, he did not get suspicious. It was in the morning that people discovered there was a body inside the bag. 

I have no enmity with anyone, says victim’s father 

The victim’s father said he did not have enmity with anyone. He said he searched for his daughter after returning from work. “I approached the police around 8 pm after I failed to locate her,” he said.
