Chandigarh, April 12

Panjab University has decided to restrict the entry of four-wheelers of outsiders on the campus. The Vice-Chancellor approved the recommendations of a committee headed by the Registrar, Col GS Chadha (retd), at a meeting held on April 9.

The committee had met after the April 8 firing incident on the campus to discuss measures to avoid such incidents in the future.

It was decided that the entry of visitors’ four-wheelers be restricted to gate number 1 and 2, which should be park at the designated areas provided near the gates.

Only vehicles with stickers or temporary passes will be allowed.

Outsiders visiting employees in the residential area should use Gate No. 3 only.

PU Chief Security Officer Jatinder Grover said, if required, staff would be provided for barricading the campus. The decision would be implemented from next Monday. He said in the second phase, ban on two-wheelers of outsiders would be imposed on the campus.
