Dehradun, January 12

Uttarakhand Congress leaders today met the Governor KK Paul seeking remedial action for revival of the trade of those businessmen, who have been severely affected by demonetisation and the GST.

Led by state party president Pritam Singh, a delegation of Congress leaders reached Raj Bhawan today and handed over a memorandum to Governor KK Paul.

The Congress leaders expressed serious concern over the death of Haldwani transporter Prakash Pandey asserting that the suicide by him symbolised the distress being faced by petty traders due to note ban and demonetisation done at the behest of the BJP government at the Centre. Seeking prompt remedial measures to revive the trade of those affected due to demonetisation, the memorandum also sought government service for widow of Pandey. It suggested a survey to assess the negative effect faced by small time businessmen due to note ban and the GST and called for subsequent effort to revive their trade. It said efforts must be undertaken to ensure that there is no repeat of Prakash Pandey-like incident in the state.

Leader of the Opposition Indira Hridyesh, Congress Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat, former ministers Dinesh Agarwal and Hira Singh Bisht and Congress state vice president Suryakant Dhasmana were prominent among the delegation. — TNS
