Ambala, November 25

Stents will be available for heart patients at a cost of Rs 40,000 at the Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital. Besides, the facilities of dialysis and MRI will also be available here at cheaper rates.

This was stated by Health Minister Anil Vij, who inspected the under-construction buildings of the Civil Hospital here today.

Talking to mediapersons, Vij said, “The hospital will have the facility of cath lab and heart patients will be provided stent facility at a cost of nearly Rs 40,000. A cath lab has signed a contract to provide these facilities and a team of the Health Department will soon visit the under construction hospital.”

A Central team had visited the Civil Hospital in August to study the feasibility of a tertiary care cancer centre, proposed in the hospital. The Health Department is expecting that the proposal will be approved and an additional block of a 50-bed cancer hospital will be constructed.

Sources said the hospital required a staff of super-specialists to provide these facilities. The Health Department and the minister have been contemplating developing the hospital as a medical college. An announcement is likely to be made in this context soon.

The minister said, “It was a long pending demand of residents of Ambala Cantonment. The hospital is taking some time to complete, but we want it to be the best hospital and we are committed to providing every facility to the patients here.”

Inspecting the hospital, Vij directed the officials to expedite the work. He also directed to construct a new conference hall, where over 100 people can attend a meeting.

Dr Vinod Gupta, Chief Medical Officer, said, “The stent facility at this price is very economical as compared to other hospitals, where the cost varies between Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. The facility at the Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital will be a big respite for heart patients, especially for those living in districts adjoining Ambala such as Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Kaithal.”
