Dr Rakesh Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, said today that the state would be completely free from stray cattle menace by August 15.

To address this issue of stray cattle menace, a workshop was conducted in Karnal on December 23 by Dr Gupta. The administration of 11 districts — Nuh, Yamunanagar, Fatehabad, Panipat, Hisar, Panchkula, Rewari, Ambala, Sirsa, Karnal, Kurukshetra — participated it. The meeting today was the second phase of the programme for the remaining 11 districts, including Sonepat, Kaithal, Jind, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Palwal, Gurugram, Rohtak, Mahendragarh and Jhajjar. It was attended by Deputy Commissioners and other officials of these districts. Dr GS Jakhar, Director General of the Animal Husbandry Department, was also present.

The DCs presented reports of the facilities and other infrastructure available in their districts to accommodate stray cattle in different ‘gaushalas’, ‘nandishalas’ and other places.

Dr Gupta said since the last workshop, over 17,000 out of 45,000 stray cattle identified in those districts had been accommodated.

“Nuh, Yamunanagar and Fatehabad districts have become stray cattle free,” he claimed and announced that Panchkula would also be free from the menace by the end of March, Ambala and Rewari by end of April and the remaining districts between May and June.
