Shapath Bharadwaj, 14-year-old shotgun double trap shooter from the state, met Governor KK Paul at Raj Bhavan here today and sought his blessings.

Shapath, a student of class IX, has brought laurels to the country by winning two gold medals (in team and individual events) at the 13th International Grand Prix (Junior) held at Porpetto, Italy, from July 22 to 24.

The junior category is for players in the age group of 12 to 21 years and Shapath remained the highest scorer in the championship. Shapath, who plays from Uttarakhand, has won many national and international titles.

The Governor said Shapath is the rising star of Indian sports world and congratulated him on his achievements. He inspired the young shooter to prepare for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, proposed to be held in Queensland, Australia, and the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Paul urged him to always aim high.

During his visit to Raj Bhavan, Shapath was accompanied by his parents and Uttarakhand State Rifle Association president Narayan Singh Rana.
