State got free power worth Rs 806 cr from Chamera-I project in 20 yrs

The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation’s (NHPC) Chamera Power Station (stage-I) has so far supplied 5339.91 million units (MUs) as free power to the state government as its 12 per cent free share of the total power generated from the project since its commissioning in 1994.

In an official communiqué issued here today, Pradeep Johar, General Manager of the Chamera Power Station-I, said: “The monetary value of this free power share given to the Himachal government in the past nearly 20 years has been put at Rs 806 crore so far.

Johar said 700 people who were affected due to the project construction had been provided permanent employment in the project during this period.

At present, around 283 people were earning their livelihood through various contract works of the project, he said.

Around 132 km of roads which included 61 km Dhaar-Goli road, 20 km Bagdhar-Khairi road, 19 km Khairi-Dam-Taleru road, 11 km Odu-Goli road, 10 Banikhet-Bagdhar road and other link roads had been constructed and even today the maintenance of these roads was being carried out by the NHPC itself, Johar said.
