Solan, September 7

Shortage of doctors in key departments like radiology and paediatrics continues to hit the Nahan Medical College despite its elevation from the Regional Hospital. The hospital was elevated after the Centre announced medical college for Nahan.

Expressing concern over the lack of doctors the Nahan MLA and BJPs chief spokesman Dr Rajiv Bindal said he had written a letter to the Principal of the medical college and the Deputy Commissioner to take note of staff shortage as it was hitting medical services adversely.

He pointed out that even the strength of operation theatre assistants was not adequate which posed problems in performing operations. The absence of radiologist and paediatricians posed problems in tackling maternity cases. Even other departments like surgery, medicine and orthopaedics were hit due to staff shortage. Dr Bindal demanded immediate filling of these posts.

He said the issue had also been taken up with the Health Minister but the problems were yet to be addressed.

Bindal also demanded rollback of various charges which had been enhanced by the college after the recent meeting of Rogi Kalyan Samiti. He said as it would cause undue monetary burden on the patients the decision should be reversed.

The medical college will take its inaugural batch of 100 MBBS students this session. It was yet at its initial stage in creating requisite facilities. Though specialists had been transferred here some were yet to join.
