Dehradun, September 11

The state government will soon start the process of slope stabilisation and treatment of landslide prone areas. This was stated by Amit Negi, Secretary, Disaster Management.

He said that WAPCOS and THDC were selected by the World Bank to prepare detail projects for 20 landslide prone areas where stabilisation techniques would be used. “After the 2013 natural disaster, a study was undertaken for identifying chronic landslide prone areas. Now the DPRs are almost ready, after which treatment will be started,” said Negi at a workshop. Techniques such as bio-engineering construction of retaining walls are increasingly being used to give stability to areas prone to landslides. Bio-engineering is mostly being favoured in areas around Rudraprayag, as it is environment friendly. — TNS
