Haridwar, May 24

Haridwar parliamentarian Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has directed government officials to speed up the works related with the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti rural electrification scheme.

Nishank reviewed the progress of the scheme here yesterday and warned officials that no compromise on quality would be tolerated at any level and regular progress reports should be forwarded to his office.

He announced that Gobardhanpur village would be developed as an ideal village, with stress on quality and time-bound completion of the projects.

He directed Chief Development Officer Ranajana to probe the matter related with a defunct potable water tank at Gobardhanpur village built by the Swajal Department. The Public Works Department was directed to construct a road in Gobardhanpur village while the district administration would fund the construction of 25 of the total 44 toilets under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Nishank, a former Chief Minister, laid stress on providing health facilities to villagers, for which he directed Health Department officials to ensure 100 per cent sterilisation of infants and making health cards of all villagers.

The power corporation was directed to install a 100 KW transformer in Gobardhanpur village and officials were asked to draft a proposal for an amendment to the Indian Telegraph Act 1885, as under this Act, there is no provision for power grid, for taking consent from land owners and for compensation for electricity poles to be installed.

Nishank also expressed concern at the delay in installation of a transformer at Tanda Aurangabad village though the necessary clearance had been granted under the Deen Dayal Gram Jyoti scheme.

Ranjana informed the parliamentarian that the village development scheme for Gobardhanpur village had been finalised and would be sent to the Centre online.
