Despite appointments of revenue officers in tehsils and sub tehsils, demarcation is still a time-consuming process and demarcations and partitions need to be speeded up, especially in rural areas. This was stated by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh while presiding over the annual state-level convention of the Himachal Pradesh Revenue Officers’ Association, here today.

“I am saying this on the basis of the complaints received from people, particularly in rural areas, while on tour,” he said, adding that the Revenue Department had always played a pivotal role and particularly after post-Independence era.

The Chief Minister also announced vehicles for tehsildars. Only selected tehsildars would be upgraded to the post of District Revenue Officers and that too in a phased manner, he added.

He said as of now, when there were 101 tehsils and 55 sub tehsils in the state. The role of revenue officers had become more important. The Chief Minister also released a calendar of the association.

Revenue and Law Minister Kaul Singh Thakur, who addressed officers, said there was a lot of expansion in revenue sector as a lot many sub tehsil and tehsils were opened during the regime of the present government. “Stagnation leads to inefficiency and lack of zeal and we want efficient officers like you all present in the convention here today” he said, adding new Kannungo circles were created in the state.

Besides, 2,300 youngsters were appointed as multipurpose workers in the revenue department. He said the government decided that with the opening of new tehsils and sub tehsils the posts would automatically be filled as per announcements.

The minister said the honorarium of sub registrars was enhanced from Rs 200 to Rs 2,000. The tehsildar had multifarious roles to play in the field and supported the demands of vehicles to them.

Narayan Chauhan, president, HP Revenue Officers Association, raised several demands, including enhancement of promotional quota in HAS to 35 per cent and demand for vehicles to all tehsildars. The association also presented a cheque for Rs 2.01 lakh to the Chief Minister towards the Chief Minister Relief Fund.
