Speculation is rife over a ‘secret’ meeting between Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and former Kurukshetra MP and businessman Naveen Jindal at Haryana Bhawan in New Delhi last night.

The meeting reportedly lasted over 40 minutes. Denying that Jindal was cozying up to the BJP and could have thought over aligning with the saffron party, political sources said Jindal was a businessman and had met the CM in connection with problems being faced by the Jindal Group. Naveen and his brother, Sajjan Jindal, run educational institutions and businesses that deal with coal and iron.

Sajjan is considered close to the son of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and is said to have facilitated the hour-long meeting between Sharif and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kathmandu during the SAARC Summit in November 2014. It is also now known that Sajjan was present at the marriage of Nawaz Sahrif’s granddaughter where Modi landed on the pretext of wishing Nawaz on his birthday on December 25 last year.

Sources close to the CM said there was nothing unusual about the meeting as Jindal met the CM accompanied by other entrepreneurs to discuss issues relating to the “Happening Haryana Summit”.
