Soon, Chamkila’s life on screen

If you are a fan of Punjabi music or even if you have a friend who is a fan, well, there is no way that you would missed listening to Amar Singh Chamkila’s songs.

And now, we are all set to see the life of this popular stage performer, songwriter, musician and composer’s life on celluloid in an upcoming Punjabi film. The untitled film is being directed by popular video director Navjit Buttar while the story has been written by Harpreet Singh. The film will be shot extensively in Punjab. Interestingly, Chamkila is a popular figure whose life and end had raised the interest of many Bollywood filmmakers as well. And, it is Navjit’s dream project! “We have secured the rights of the story of the film from Chamkila’s family already. His entire family is excited,” he says. The screenplay of the film is by Navjit Buttar and Harpreet Singh. As for the cast of the film, Navjit says, “I don’t think anyone can play Chamkila better than Gippy Grewal.”
