Mandi, October 27

The district administration has made all security arrangements ahead of Diwali.

To avoid any untoward incident, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam has asked cracker sellers to set up stall outside the town. Officials have earmarked a site at the Paddal ground for the sellers.

Around this time, shopkeepers sell adulterated sweets, risking the lives of a number of people. In the absence of any check, the sellers make hay. On this, the Deputy Commissioner said health officials had been asked to collects samples from sweetmeat shops on a regular basis.

Kadam said: “I have asked the Fire Department to engage fire tenders to deal with emergencies. We have already banned the sale of firecrackers in the town.”

“Strict action will be taken against offenders,” he added.

The Deputy Commissioner urged the people to celebrate Diwali cautiously, adding that negligence could prove fatal. In the past, many fatal mishaps have taken place on the festival. Elders should not let children burst crackers on their own.
