Sirsa, February 5

Satinder Kumar Gupta, SP, has ordered an inquiry into the allegation that a bribe of Rs 10 lakh was demanded in the name of a DSP for registering an FIR in a case of duping a person of Rs 45 lakh.

The SP has also shifted Balwant Singh Jassu, SHO, Sadar police station, after the complaint.

Gupta said he had withdrawn the investigation of the case from the Sadar police station and handed it over to the Anti-Burglary Cell of the district police. He said he had asked Ellenabad DSP Kuldeep Singh Beniwal to probe the allegation.

Shamsher Singh, a farmer from Sikandarpur village of Sirsa, met the SP yesterday and alleged a father-son duo from Chandigarh, who ran a company to send children abroad for studies, had duped him of Rs 45 lakh.

“When the police ignored my request to register an FIR, I met then SP Sangeeta Kalia, who marked the complaint to a DSP, asking him to report the matter in five days. Later, Sanjay approached me and demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of the DSP,” he alleged.

Sanjay allegedly called the DSP and made him overhear their conversation.

He said despite taking Rs 2.5 lakh from him, no FIR was registered by the police. Eventually, he approached the court and the FIR was registered.

When he demanded his money back, he was allegedly threatened of dire consequences.

Shamsher also submitted some recorded conversations between him and Sanjay to the SP.

“Sanjay has criminal cases registered against him in Punjab,” the SP said.
