Sirsa SP Ashwin Shenvi has constituted community liaison groups at the police station level and also for his own office for the resolution of petty disputes of people through mutual understanding.

Also known as counselling centres, these groups have many prominent people of the area as its members. They will help the police sort out minor issues of the people at the initial stage.

Women have also been included in the counselling groups, so that incidents of crimes against women could be checked.

“We have constituted 13 community liaison groups in equal number of police stations in the district and another at the district headquarters,” Shenvi said.

“The basic purpose behind constituting community liaison groups is to encourage people settle their small disputes at the local level without entering into any litigation. Since the members of the groups are also from the local area, they know the issues between the parties and are better equipped to solve them,” the SP said.

Shenvi said it had been noticed often that small disputes turned bigger if not resolved at the initial level.
