Chandigarh, March 20

Panjab University is planning to have a single window system for booking of auditoriums on the campus.

In the Syndicate meeting, which was chaired by PU Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover, it was decided that a committee will be constituted to frame a uniform policy for the booking of any auditorium on the campus.

It was decided that the committee will be chaired by the Dean of University Instructions which will draft the policy. The committee will also chalk out the revised rent slabs of all auditoriums.

In the meeting, a discussion took place that neither the department nor the Dean Students Welfare, which has the authority to give approval to any event being held in the auditorium of the campus, is aware about any rules which have to be followed for the booking. As a result, confusion prevails in case any controversy arises in the booking of the auditorium.

The committee will frame a rule for single window from where approval has to be sought by the organisers. In fact, in case of the auditoriums of various departments, after getting no-objection certificate from the department, approval will be given through a single window system.

Records of the university revealed that the rent of the auditoriums located on the campus was revised four years ago. It was proposed in the meeting that the committee will also chalk out the revised slabs of the auditoriums. Members of the syndicate proposed that revision of rents should be between 30 to 40 per cent for the coming year.

After a clash between the AVBP and the SFS at the Student Centre, a meeting was held. It was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, chief security officer, Dean, Students Welfare, and the students council.

During the meeting, the students council raised the issue that it has become a practice for the student parties to hold a protest or open debate on the issues not related to Panjab University. After this, a decision was taken to have a uniform policy for booking of auditoriums on the campus.
