Amritsar, March 28

A day after Justice TP Garg Commission submitted its recommendations to the the Haryana Government, Sikh organisations have condemned the panel for merely focusing on the compensation aspect and denying justice to the victims of the Hondh-Chillar massacre.

All-India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) president Karnail Singh Peermohammed said they were not backing the families of the victims in their struggle merely for getting them compensation. “Right from the beginning, we’ve been demanding that those who killed the Sikhs in Hondh-Chillar should be identified and brought to book. However, the Commission seems to have left out that angle altogether,” he said.

Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said the commission’s report on the Hondh-Chillar tragedy was another cruel joke on the aggrieved community, whose wait for justice had come to naught with each passing year. “Compensation sans justice means nothing, it sounds hollow,” he said.

Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh said the compensation alone was not enough and those who conspired to kill Sikhs in Hondh-Chillar should be traced and punished.
