Yamunanagar, July 28

Five persons, including a station house officer and an assistant sub inspector, were booked on abetment charge today after a resident of Chhachhrauli town of Yamunanagar district committed suicide by consuming poison.

Rajneesh Rana of Jogiyan Mohalla of Chhachhrauli town had left behind a note in which he blamed Rashid, Juneid, Vishal Singla, Chhachhrauli police station SHO Navneet Chaudhry and ASI Praveen Kumar for forcing him to take the extreme step.

In his complaint to the Chhachhrauli police, victim’s brother Rajesh Rana said Rajneesh had told him on July 26 that a quarrel had broken out between his son Sunny and Juneid of Khera Mohalla of Chhachhrauli over some issue. However, the Chhachhrauli police registered an FIR against him and his sons — Vishal and Sunny. He had told the police that he and his son Vishal had nothing to do with the quarrel, but to no avail.

The complainant alleged his brother consumed poison on July 27. He was taken to the primary health centre, Chhachhrauli, and later to Mukand Lal Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar. He was referred to PGI, Chandigarh, but his family members took him to a private hospital at Yamunanagar, where he died last night.

In his suicide note, the victim alleged, “Rashid and his son Juneid got a false case registered against me and my sons. SHO Navneet Chaudhry and ASI Praveen Kumar are also equally responsible for my suicide, as they are supporting Rashid and his son. Vishal Singla, a local resident, is assuring us to get the case solved for Rs 1 lakh. They are harassing me and I am forced to take this extreme step.”

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter) Adarshdeep Singh said a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC had been registered against the five persons.
