Amritsar, September 24

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has appealed to the Union ministry of Home to permit it to convene a meeting of its general house.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh stated this after laying the foundation stones for the installation of a 66-KV power sub-station and hearths for the Langar Hall in the Golden Temple complex.

He said a communiqué had been sent to the ministry in this regard. It sought to convene a meeting of the general house to elect new office-bearers.

The apex court in its decision on September 15 had validated the 2011 election of the Shiromani committee.
