Seychelles Prez hails India’s leadership in solar alliance

President of the Republic of Seychelles Danny Faure has praised India’s exemplary leadership in forming the international solar alliance. He also appreciated India’s efforts in meeting the challenges of climate change and emphasising on the use of renewable energy, especially solar energy.

Faure was addressing the faculty and Indian Forest Service Probationers of the 2017 batch at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun on Wednesday. He expressed concern over the threat posed by climate change and spoke on the role of the world community in tackling the issue.

He also highlighted the efforts made by the government of Seychelles in protecting the forest and bringing about economic development in harmony with nature. He referred to his country’s effort in banning most of the single-used plastic items and also spoke on future course of action. He also hoped that India would cooperate with Seychelles in training forest personnel.

During his interaction with the IFS probationers, he mentioned that his government had put a ban on the construction of new hotels beyond the carrying capacity. He appreciated the long history of management of forest resources in India and the nation’s recent achievement in improving forest cover.

Earlier, welcoming Faure, Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy’s Ganga Singh spoke about the day-to-day activities at the academy and spoke on different aspects of training. He also spoke about the challenges faced by the forestry sector in India.
