Sewing machines and related kit were given to village women at Swargashram on Monday.

The rural women, who underwent a month-long sewing and knitting training camp organised by the Shailputri Mahila Jan Kalyan Samiti, Rishikesh, were provided the sewing machines by Parmarth Niketan ashram spiritual ideologue Swami Chidanand Muni Saraswati.

At a brief function, Swami Chidanand Muni Saraswati said the Parmarth Niketan and the Shailputri Mahila Jan Kalyan Samiti were helping women who wanted to make a living or contribute to their family but failed to do so owing to lack of money or resources.

“Enabling women to stand on their feet paves the way for betterment of the whole family. We are trying to boost the morale of such women, particularly poor and uneducated. It’s a blessing to work for those who are in distress,” said Sadhvi Bhagwati of Ganga Action Parivar.

Ram Pyari Devi, president of the Shailputri Mahila Jan Kalyan Society, said cooperation and support from Swami Chidanand Saraswati and Sadhvi Bhagwati from time to time had led to many women become self-employment through such self skill-based training being provided by the society.
