Chief Minister Harish Rawat today visited Govind Ghat in Chamoli district today and inspected the arrangements for the Hemkund Sahib Yatra. He held a meeting with officials concerned to review the preparations for the yatra and directed them to serve local hill food to the devotees visiting the revered Sikh shrine this year.

The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction at the preparations and directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to repair damaged roads immediately. The Hemkund Sahib Yatra will start on June 1.

He said a working plan should be prepared for the sale of products made by local women self-help groups. He was informed that the PWD had completed construction work from the gurdwara to Pulna with lighting arrangements. Four rain shelters and 40 steel benches had been set up on the route while a Sulabh Shauchaliya would soon be constructed en route to the shrine.

The Chief Minister was apprised about the issues relating to the Irrigation Department. He was informed that the protection walls of the Govind Ghat gurdwara had been constructed. He directed the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department to present a proposal regarding road safety from the gurdwara to the link road. He directed the Electricity Department to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the yatra period.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure best medical, health facilities, and adequate food and water provisions for the pilgrims.
