Chandigarh, April 30

Residents of Sector 21  have shown the way in cleanliness by buying a grass mower and leaf collector machinery  from the US costing around Rs  7.50 lakh. The  amount was collected by members of the  Citizens’ Association, Sector 21, Chandigarh.

Baljinder Singh Bittu, president of the association, said they had imported the machinery from the US to make the sector look more clean and assist the Municipal Corporation in making the Swachh Bharat dream  a reality. RC Nayyar, chief patron of the association, said cleanliness was a collective effort. “If making the city neat and clean is the duty of the MC, we must not forget our duty to help the authorities in making it happen,” he said. Mayor Asha Jaswal, who  lives in the same ward, said the initiative was good and something for others to follow too. Bittu  said  apart from collecting dry leaves and cutting grass, the machinery crushed these. The leaves and grass could be turned into manure, thereby solving the problem of disposal.
