Tanish Modi, 17, does not mean to blow his own trumpet, when he drops in a suggestion, that winning awards and accolades in creative and academic pursuits has pretty much become more of a habit for him. A product of Chandigarh’s St. John’s High School, Modi recently repeated his AIIMS success story, the entrance for which he had cleared with a mighty All-India Rank (AIR) 68. How did he repeat it? “Well, by earning AIR 16 in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2016,” Modi states rather matter-of-factly, as he looks you straight in the eye.

Apart from these two prominent achievements, Modi’s platter is brimming with a host of other enviable feats as well. The former assistant house captain of St. John’s High School has delivered soulful renditions as the guitarist of the school’s band, and ended up earning 92 per cent in Class 12 board exams. And that is not all! “I was also awarded the silver medal during the 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in July 2016,” smiles the young achiever.

Thanks mum and dad

Son of doctor parents — Dr Manish Modi, currently serving as neurologist with Chandigarh’s PGI, and mother Veenu Modi, radiologist with PGI — Tanish cannot stop thanking his parents for constantly motivating him. “I observed them working day and night, dedicating their time and attention for such a noble cause. When I realised that opting for the medical profession is the best way to make a difference in people’s lives, I decided to follow in my parents’ footsteps,” shares Tanish, who aims to make a difference with his healing touch by becoming, as he puts it, “a good, successful doctor; at the same time taking some time out to pursue my passion for music and art.”

Listen up, youngsters

According to Modi, consistency and time management are the keys to success. The multi-tasker, who has actively participated in painting competitions since school days, issues a piece of well-meaning advice to fellow youngsters aiming to make it big, “Leave adequate time slot for revision and do not panic at the last moment during your exam days.”
