Sucha Singh Chhotepur’s removal from the post of state AAP convener has invited the ire of party volunteers. In some constituencies, they have raised the banner of revolt against the party candidates. On social media, a section of the volunteers demanded the setting up of a committee instead of appointing a convener for the state unit.

During Chhotepur’s press conference yesterday, seven of the 13 zonal incharges had expressed solidarity with him. In Ghanaur Assembly segment, where the party has fielded former Congress minister Jasjit Singh Randhawa’s daughter Anu Randhawa — who joined AAP three months ago – the volunteers demanded that the candidate be changed and one of them be given the ticket. Sources said the volunteers had asserted that they would keep running the main AAP office in Ghanaur as the campaign office instead of the one recently inaugurated by Anu Randhawa.

Volunteers Gurvinder Singh and Jaskaran Brar posted on Facebook that the Punjab party unit needed a state committee which would take decisions in a democratic way. They said the convener’s post should be done away with.

AAP’s newly appointed co-incharge for state affairs Jarnail Singh could not be contacted for comment.
