School owner arrested for fraudulent sale of land

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the police arrested a man here today for his alleged involvement in a fraudulent land dealing. The accused had duped many residents with cash before selling the same piece of land in the city. He owns a school at Ganeshpur.

Sanjay Gunjyal, IG, Garhwal, said ITBP Inspector Surendra Khattri in his complaint to the police alleged that the accused duped him of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of selling a piece of land at Ganeshpur.

The complainant alleged that the accused had not come for registry of the land on many occasions even after he repeatedly requested him.

Accused Devendra Singh Negi gave him a cheque for Rs 5 lakh to hush up the case, which bounced.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, Gunjyal instructed SIT Inspector SK Saklani to investigate the case. The SIT has requested SSP Dehradun, Pushpak Jyoti to register a case against the accused on the basis of its report.

Gunjyal said Naya Gaon police post in charge PD Bhatt had arrested the accused for his alleged involvement in fraudulent land dealing case. Negi used to lure residents on the pretext of selling land at a cheaper price, and then used to refuse payment of advance money paid to him by customers.

Meanwhile, Gunjyal announced a reward of Rs 5,000 each to SIT Inspector Sakhlani and Naya Goan police post in charge SI Bhatt for cracking the case. — TNS
