New Delhi, August 30

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed separatist leader Ashiq Hussain Faktoo’s plea to reconsider his conviction and life term.

Radical Islamic group Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi Asiya Andrabi’s husband Faktoo, alias Dr Mohammad Qasim, is Kashmir’s longest serving separatist leader — has spent more than two decades in prison. He was sentenced in 2003 for the murder of human rights activist HN Wanchoo on December 5, 1992.

A Jammu court acquitted Faktoo in 2001, but the Supreme Court overturned the verdict. In prison, he completed his doctorate in Islamic studies. — Agencies
