Mobile app for residents on New Year

CHANDIGARH: The UT Administration has come up with a mobile app for city residents that will carry basic information on consumer rights, helplines for further information and complaint centres for a variety of products and services being provided by different departments.

The UT Administration has come up with a mobile app for city residents that will carry basic information on consumer rights, helplines for further information and complaint centres for a variety of products and services being provided by different departments.

The mobile app that will also have consumer tips and will run on android and iOS phones is expected to be launched on January 1 and will be accessible through the official website of the Chandigarh Administration —Chandigarh.gov.in.

The mobile app is being developed by the Department of Food And Supplies that will promote the message of “Jago Grahak Jago”. In addition, the department has come up with a handbook of consumer information providing the same information. It will be officially launched on Wednesday and distributed free of cost in schools and market areas. An electronic version of the booklet will also be uploaded on the website of the UT Administration on Wednesday. “So far, we there was no consolidated information available for consumers anywhere. We had been receiving feedback on the difficulty in finding out clear information on “what facility can be available from where” and hence, we thought of bringing out this booklet,” said Joint Director, Food and Supplies, UT, Danish Ashraf. We will also launch this booklet in Hindi as well shortly,” he added.

The handbook and app constitute:

Highlights of the Consumer Protection Act, responsibilities of a consumer, consumer tips, how to file a complaint, important contacts, detailed information on standards, certifications, food products, cosmetics, banking, medicines, packers and movers,ration cards, electronics, power supply, clothing and real estate.

A booklet on consumer information is to be launched and electronic copy will be uploaded at Chandigarh.gov.in on Wednesday which is National Consumer Day (December 24).
